Encore — TypeScript Backend Framework with Automated Infrastructure
Encore is an open-source framework for building robust distributed systems, using a declarative infrastructure-as-code approach ensuring performance, security, and quality.
Categories:
Encore is an open-source backend framework for TypeScript and Go that automates infrastructure provisioning, observability, and provides powerful local development tools for building distributed systems.
🚀 Overview
Encore is a development platform that makes building robust backends for event-driven and distributed systems simple and fast by automating infrastructure, deployments, and monitoring.
It solves key pain points in backend development like manual setup of local resources (databases, Pub/Sub), DevOps toil for deployments, and lack of built-in observability. No more Docker Compose, YAML configs, or manual tracing setup—everything is derived from your code.
Built for backend developers, engineering teams, and indie makers creating scalable applications. The Encore team built it to escape backend burdens, enabling 2-3x faster development and 95% less DevOps time, as reported by users.
✨ Key Features
- Automated local infrastructure (PostgreSQL, Pub/Sub, caches, secrets) provisioned on-the-fly without Docker or config files—what it does: speeds up iteration; why: eliminates setup friction
- Local Development Dashboard with API explorer, service catalog, distributed tracing, logs, architecture diagrams, and database explorer—enhances debugging and design
- Type-safe API schemas, authentication, streaming APIs, request validation, multithreading, error handling, and Rust-based runtime 9x faster than Express.js—ensures reliability and performance
- Optional: Leap AI dev agent that builds and deploys apps; automated testing, API client generation, cloud previews per PR
🛠 Tech Stack
- Languages: TypeScript (Encore.ts), Go (Encore.go)
- Runtime: Rust-based Encore runtime (zero npm deps, high perf)
- Database: PostgreSQL, Redis (auto-provisioned)
- Auth: Built-in (OAuth, JWT)
- Hosting: Encore Cloud (automated AWS/GCP), self-host via Docker
