Gibbon is a flexible, web-based school management system built by educators to tackle the daily challenges faced in schools, such as fragmented student data and inefficient workflows. It centralizes student information, enabling teachers to better understand, contact, locate, and support their students. The platform supports seamless planning, teaching, and assessment processes while providing unified access for all stakeholders with customizable permissions.

This project solves the problem of rigid, expensive proprietary systems by offering a free, adaptable alternative that schools can host themselves, modify, and extend. It's built for a wide range of institutions including international schools, public schools, homeschool groups, and even refugee education programs worldwide.

Founded by teacher Ross Parker in 2010 in response to needs at his international school (ICHK), Gibbon was created to give educators control, freedom, and a student-centered, teacher-led toolset without vendor lock-in.
