AWStats (Advanced Web Statistics) is a mature, Perl-based tool that parses server log files to produce detailed, graphical HTML reports on website traffic and usage without needing client-side JavaScript tracking.
It solves the challenge of extracting meaningful insights from voluminous server logs, offering stats on visitors, pages, search terms, errors, robots, and more across various server types and log formats.
Built for webmasters, system administrators, and server managers who prioritize privacy and server-side analysis, it was created by Laurent Destailleur in 2000 to provide powerful, customizable statistics. Though deprecated in November 2025 after 25 years of maintenance, it remains functional for self-hosted log analysis.
