openmediavault is a free, open-source network attached storage (NAS) solution based on Debian Linux, providing easy-to-use file sharing and storage management for home users and small offices.
🚀 Overview
openmediavault (OMV) is the next-generation NAS operating system that transforms standard hardware into a fully functional storage server. Built on the stable Debian Linux foundation, it features a intuitive web-based administration interface accessible from any browser, making server management straightforward without needing deep Linux knowledge.
It integrates essential services like SSH, SFTP, SMB/CIFS, NFS, Rsync, and more, all configurable through a clean UI. The modular plugin architecture allows endless customization, from media servers to container orchestration with Kubernetes or Docker.
What problem does this project solve?
It solves the complexity of setting up and maintaining a NAS by offering an out-of-the-box solution with web management, monitoring, and extensibility.
Who is it built for?
Primarily home environments, homelab enthusiasts, and small home offices (SOHO) seeking affordable, sovereign data storage.
Why did you build it?
To make data sovereignty easy and accessible, empowering users to control their storage without proprietary hardware or steep learning curves.
