Proton is a community-owned ecosystem of end-to-end encrypted apps for secure email, calendar, VPN, cloud storage, password management, documents, and more, built for privacy-conscious individuals, professionals, and organizations worldwide.

---

🚀 Overview

Proton provides a full suite of privacy-by-default services that keep your data under your control with automatic end-to-end and zero-access encryption. Founded in 2014 by scientists who met at CERN, Proton started with encrypted email and has grown into a comprehensive privacy ecosystem including VPN, drive, pass, and collaborative tools—all accessible with one account across devices. Based in Switzerland, it leverages strong privacy laws, funds itself through subscriptions without ads or data sales, and is governed by the nonprofit Proton Foundation.

This project solves the problem of pervasive surveillance and data exploitation by big tech companies, governments, and hackers in everyday digital tools like email, storage, and browsing. It's built for anyone who values privacy as a fundamental right—individuals, journalists, activists, businesses, and over 100 million users worldwide. We built it to create a better internet where freedom and privacy come first, driven by a community-first approach with open-source code and independent audits.
